General FAQ

How old do I have to be to apply?
If you're old enough to be on this site (18), you're old enough to apply.

What does PB stand for?
Portrayed by. Its the actor/actress/singer you use for your icons to represent your character. No, we don't play the actual actor/actress/singers here. We simply use their unique looks to give other players an idea of what our characters look like.

How many characters can I play?
Because this role play is designed to be a smaller close nit community, players should expect to only ever play the one character at any given time. However exceptions may be made at the discretion of the mods for an extra character.

What is fluid time?
Fluid time comes into play when you have more than one thread at any one time. We encourage it, actually. Basically it means keeping a solid timeline and never violating it. For instance, you're in two threads. Thread A, started first, is dated on the 11th of the month and in it your character breaks their leg. Thread B, started second, is dated on the 5th of that same month. By the dates, thread B happened before thread A, even though thread B was posted second. Therefore, logically, in thread B (dated earlier in the month), your character shouldn't have a broken leg yet.

So simply keep in mind which thread happened first and follow common sense and logic. If you want to write something happening before a thread that you’ve already started, make a note at the top of the first post so everyone else knows too.

Can I play adult themed storylines?
An adult storyline is anything which has adult themes. Violent relationships, pregnancy ending in miscarriage/stillbirth or abortion, eating disorders, cutting, drug abuse, ect. All of these must be admin approved. Your writing experience, your knowledge of the subject matter, and the level of discomfort it could cause other members will all factor into whether admin will allow it. This isn’t because we want to restrict our members, but because the community is meant to be fun, and we don’t want anyone to feel they need to leave because they don’t want to read such adult themes. On the topic of pregnancy: Yes it should take a full nine months, so think carefully about the commitment before taking this sort of storyline on.

I'm going to be away for a few weeks, what do I do?
Simply let the admin know before you go. Real life always comes before RP and the admin understand as much.

I've been away and it was so unexpected I didn't have time to tell anyone. What now?
Simply let the admin know why you were away. We understand that sudden absences without notification can happen, and if it does, no one will blame you for it. Just don’t let it happen too often.

What if I'm away without telling anyone often?
Players who disappear on a regular basis for extended periods of time will be removed from the game. One of two things always seem to be true of people who do this: They either don't have time to write with us or they lack the enthusiasm to write their character. If its the latter, and you think it will help, you can change your characters over. Find one you feel more comfortable writing. If its the former, then we really can't help, yet we hope you'll reapply when you have more time. But regardless of the reason, if you allow it to get to the point where you're gone more often than you're present, you will be removed from the game.

How long can I be gone without telling anyone before I‘m removed from the game?
If you’re gone for one month without giving notification then you will be removed.

Universe FAQ

Where and when is the game set?
It's set in Joss Whedon's "Firefly" Universe. A good body of information can be found here. It covers more universal aspects of the setting.

What is Paragon?
Paragon is the name of the Dragonfly-class bulk transport ship that serves as the setting for our role-play, and home of our characters.

Like all things fresh of the production line, she was once a proud and pristine ship. She was dubbed Paragon to capture the excellence of her kind. The perfect transport ship, strong, proud, hearty, and beautiful. While Paragon remains a virtuous ship to this day, her name has become something of an irony. Seeing her time through long years of solid use, the unification war, and living out her maturity on the outskirts of the Verse, at the hands of her "Independent" captain she's come to look a bit worse for wear. Her youthful days are over, and now she gets by on the glory of her history, and that of her loving crew.

What does Paragon look like?
Fans over at fireflyrpg.com have done some great work coming up with different ships built for the Firefly universe. Images of the Dragonfly can be found here. Thanks to Wydraz for his creation.

What do people sound like in the the future Verse?
The folk over at Firefly Slang have written up a wonderful guide to the language of the Firefly universe. We encourage everyone to read it and make use of it to better capture the sense of the game.
