SANTORINI
It has been said that the sunsets in Santorini are the best in the world. From the Caldera breathtaking views of the volcano & neighbouring islands. From the east, miles of dark sandy or pebbled beaches. Everywhere one sees small domed churches and remnants of days gone by.

The world famous island of Santorini is the southern most island of the Cycladic group in the Aegean Sea, and is located 63 nautical miles north of Crete. Its surface area is 73 sq. km. and its population, distributed among thirteen villages, just exceeds thirteen thousand six hundred souls, according to the census of 2001. Santorini is the last of the Cyclades island to the South. The closests islands are Ios, Folegandros, Sikinos to the North, Anafi and Amorgos to the East and Crete to the South.

We refer to Santorini as one, but actually is complex of five islands. Santorini (Thira) is the main island and around it Thirasia and Aspronisi (parts of the ancient Stroggili) and the two volcanic islands Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni.

It was one island named Stroggili (circle in Greek) until about 1645 BC, when the volcano in the middle of the island erupted and Caldera was created. The two volcanic islands appeared much later from various eruptions starting 157 BC and the last one to be in the 20th century (1950). Today the landscape includes vineyards, fig trees, caves and churches.

Santorini is connected to Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Crete, Rhodes, Kos and all the major Cyclades islands (Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Ios, Sifnos, Milos, Tinos, Syros) by boat and Athens and many countries direct by plane.

Perissa is a beach resort situated 15 km south-east of Fira, Santorini. It is a very touristic village which offers an impressive long and comfortable black sandy beach. It is characterized by an enormous rock called Mesa Vouno which is rising from the sea. The area offers a great landscape especially by night when the rock is lighted. The village of Perissa in Santorini Greece is not really a village. It lives only during summer holidays time. The village offers a great variety of hotels and rooms, tavernas and restaurants, cafes, bars, beach bars and night clubs. The area is newly built and has been created for the only purpose to welcome the tourists. For that reason, the architecture looks much different from the traditional villages perched on the impressive cliffs. From Perissa, a small path crosses the mountain and leads to the ruins of Ancient Thera. The excursions can be made by foot or with donkeys. The village of Perissa also has the charming chapel of Agia Irena (16th-17th century).
