Hi, all,

I'm going to be wandering for a couple of days in South Florida next week ... basically anywhere south and east of Ft. Myers. Does anyone have any suggestions for good shooting locations down there?

Gas Factory (Budapest, Hungary)

The Gas Factory is located in the North-Western Part of Budapest not far away from the Danube and is located near the so called "Pepsi Sziget" Unlike most other zones, Gas Factory is special in the way, that many of its deeper places can be only accessed by dark and narrow underground corridors or climbing threw the roof. In fact the best part of the whole place are its roofs. Of coerce it aren't always easy to access the rooftop. But it you are sherpa enough, you can enter buildings, that otherwise can not be entered. As for underground corridors, those are more complicated thing, because in most cases they are REALLY long and narrow, however their nexus is in the watchtower, so its a sneaky way to get to the heart of the factory. Still, while crawling threw these I was wondering if they would collapse or not, which arn't a good feeling. Not recommended for claustrophobic people :) The reason they are so narrow is because previously there used to be gas pipes in them and gas pipes were not supposed to be huge. Also some underground areas contain stashes of seriously old stuff. For example we found a few Coca-cola bottles from 60s-70s.

Now for the actual watchtower. Its the biggest building in location and also the most dangerous one. Inside it looks a little like a cathedral and a lot of spiraling stairs that go really high. The craziest thing about those is that they are not fixed anywhere except at the very base. Now imagine the situation, you go 30 meters up on them and the whole thing starts shaking. Not for the faint of hearted. Worst thing is the fact, that they are pretty rotten at the bottom too, due to to much water in the tunnels. The top of the tower is filled with dust, burd remains and the watch mechanism is missing, however there is another ladder leading to the very top of the tower.

Currently the place is "restourated" which in practice means thay are going to tear it down and build something new on its place. :(

When you see this place you crave for exploring it. Having done that you wish to return and forget the day you have shown up there. A gloomy eleven-storeyed abandoned hospital in Khovrino district. Hundreds of people come here from the whole Moscow, thousands have visited this place, many corpses are found every year within the walls of Residence Evil. So many people are missing there, so many cannot still be found in the gloomy rooms, so many have been killed. The building has created many legends and mysteries. It is in disrepute. It has a criminal, one can even say an infernal reputation. The aim of my article is to merge all the facts and fictions existing in e-net concerning this place.

I'm making a book of different places in New England that are abandoned. It's going to contain whatever I can gather together, pictures, stories, descriptions, anything. If you want to give me something do it! The books going to be black and white due to prices but will be a bound book. Also if anyones interested and wants a copy of their own once it's done it's going to cost about $15 shipping included to continental US.

Lets not forget the places, they're beautiful and will be gone one day.

History still in the making (part 4)

As we headed down from the roof of the roof of Lincoln Mill, the owner of the building he asked me for my opinion on roof sealants to use and why. He is planning to restore the building but plans to make it into high end condos and lofts fell through with the slowing economy. Due to his renters and the historical designation by the state of the entire neighborhood, the build pays for itself and he’s not pressed for time to make rapid progress on repairs to the upper floors.

Back on the ground, he took me around the building and point out further historical aspects. This area once extended to the main mills and weaving buildings, but the fire that destroyed those buildings in 1982, damaged the wing and required partial demolition then.

As we approached this section of the building to show off the vaults, he gave me an early Yule present – free and unencumbered access to the building. “Just don’t get hurt.”

After a very brief tour of the vaults (no photos), he opened up one of the old warehouse buildings (I’d photographed through a window before). This is a plastics curing machine.

This concluded my first visit to Lincoln. It’s not been the last. I headed out with a plan to return and thoroughly explore the site and the surrounding around much more thoroughly.

This ruin was highlighted in one of those resort magazines at the hotel we stayed at on Lake Oconee, and I dragged Theresa down five miles of dirt roads somewhere between Athens and Greensboro to see them. The main ruin still standing is variously described as either a factory or a warehouse (even the signage at the sign contradicts itself). There's an arch bridge that has fallen and been made inaccessible by hurricane fencing and overgrowth, and there are occasional brick foundations poking up through the ground here and there. Overall, not worth the trip in my opinion, but if you're bored and happen to be in the area it might be worth the diversion.

A former soft drink distribution centre off Lockport Road nearly ten miles East of Niagra Falls AMTRAK station. I visited there a year ago, the rumour is a medical supplies company has started atthat location.
Is there anyone that drives past that location that can confirm the plant is no longer abandoned ?

A huge abandoned greenhouse near my parents' place in the North of England. It is inhabited by wild cats and has a weird desert-like climate. Apparently it is soon-to-be pulled down to make way for a new housing development.

Kobanya, is a district of Budapest, that used to be a city’s industrial Zone many ears ago, but with the growth of the city, it became a not-so-far-away part of the town. You can reach it, by going to the last stop of the “blue” metro line. By itself, its, not a place, but rather a collection of places. We have some beer factories, industrial complexes and what is more important: a large network of underground catacombs, some of which are flooded. Currently many of the buildings are demolished.

A former Pepsi Cola bottling plant near North of Buffalo on a quiet backroad near Canadian border.

I visited there a year ago to look at setting up a manufacturing plant. Unfortunately the investor backed out so the project is still stalled.
Or is it ? I have heard a rumour that the investor wants to start the project without me. Is there anyone in the area that could drive by the building and report any activity ? Contact me and I'll give you the address.
