02:00 am - Policy Change
Folks,

The behavior of some people has caused me to instigate a new rule:

As of 3/24/2008:

If a random database query shows that your personal journal is lacking at least a month and a year for birthdate, it will be suspended without notice for a period of 30 days.

CJ is an adult blogging site. Do not attempt to circumvent the rules. Thank you.

01:54 pm - New To Commie Journal's Main Page
CommieJournal was created after the first attack on fanfic a year ago this coming Memorial Day (2008). For those who can appreciate black humor, the name of our service was originally based on the Baby Boomer idea "We aren't the status quo so we must be Commies!" Good old Cold War humor.

However now I must admit that it has more meaning than that. Increasingly in this day and age, folks are put down for being original, imaginative, and outspoken. This is true whether you live in the USA or the Russian Federation. It is even more true in other countries.

Blogging services are open to any and all in the world who has an unfettered Internet connection. At the same time, it is also becoming increasingly true that bastions for free expression are fast disappearing; some under outright censorship, some buried under burgeoning commercial interests. No matter the reason, it's getting harder and harder for folks to find a venue where they are permitted to express themselves without cruel and unusual restrictions.

It is obvious LJ's former standing as one of those bastions has come to an end. If it isn't the capitalism they are now shoving down your throat (for anyone who creates a free account after March 12, that is) it's the interests and content they are blatantly censoring.

CJ's "communism" now stands for one of the few areas left on the Internet that isn't concerned with making money. It now stands for a collaborative effort by all users to support one of the few bastions of free expression that is left. It now stands for a safe home for ALL, regardless of mode of self-expression, regardless of gender identity, regardless of ANY difference.

We have done our best to create an area where the best of what LJ used to be can still thrive. While we don't have all the "bells and whistles" LJ has (their open-source code does not include everything) we DO have FREEDOM.

Please consider joining us.
