 | 01:26 am - All moved! CJ is all moved in to its new home. Sorry it took an extra day, but the first try didn't transfer the database properly.
Check to see if you are missing any posts. If you saved copies of your posts as advised, you should be able to re-post anything that is missing.
Our server bill is greatly reduced, which makes it less of a burden for all of us. The new cost is $89.95 per month.
Feel free to submit a support ticket if you are having any issues as a result of this move. Current Mood: happy

A new post will be made when the move is complete. Current Mood: busy

 | 04:36 pm - Server Move! We are transferring CommieJournal to a new server. This will happen sometime tonight and may go into tomorrow (7/2/2008). All accounts are safe and there should not be a data loss moving the entire package. There may be some downtime as one server is shut down and the other is started up. Please don't panic, it'll all be up in a jiffy!
This will save us all a considerable amount in hosting. Current Location: High Desert Current Mood: happy

 | 02:14 am - Rumors Still Flying Around Recently I got a support request with the following question:
"I heard you guys frown highly upon role players, and you go and clear out their usernames or something like that? Is this true? It's been floating around insanejournal.com"
No, we don't hate roleplayers. The big kerfluffle had to do with old GreatestJournal people coming over and signing up for literally hundreds of usernames, just because they weren't as yet claimed. That situation was over and done with over half a year ago.
Anyone curious can ask anyone who uses CJ: We don't run around deleting accounts out of turn.
In fact a purge hasn't been done for quite a long time and likely won't be done in the near future.
If you see an account that someone has deleted, and you'd like to acquire the name, file a support request and we will see what we can do. Current Mood: calm

 | 07:32 pm - We need support personnel! We are running way short of active support personnel. If you would like to apply, please send an email to personnel at commiejournal dot com, with a blurb about yourself and your qualifications. Prior experience is a plus, as is familiarity with Perl or familiarity with setting up public styles.
You will have to be here to answer support requests, clear spam reports, as well as help other people out. If you have Perl experience we have a nice list of stuff we'd like to implement that LJ doesn't pass on with the open-source code. If you have styles experience, we could use some new ones :)

 | 08:32 am - Alright, now it's my turn. I'm also running for the LJ Advisory Board and my post is here:
http://community.livejournal.com/lj_election_en/16581.html
If you have an LJ, please take the time to vote for me. If you want to spread the word, you can paste the following code to your own LJ:
It looks like this:
Why am I doing this? Partly because I believe that changes may happen from the inside out over there, and partly because those of us who run LJ-like sites should be a part of this as well.

 | 07:41 am - How To Fight Spam in Your Journal This post bears repeating, as I just found out there are a slew of spam reports.
The best way to avoid random spam in your comments is to set your journal to accept comments from registered users only. If your friends want to come over from other sites, tell them to either sign up for a free account or use OpenID.
If anyone needs instructions on how to use OpenID, reply here and I'll put them up. Current Mood: busy

 | 03:54 am - The LJ Elections or “The Revenge of Fandom!” ~As of this typing, I've only got 95 votes – 5 shy of making it in the door. But I expect I'll be able to scare up those 5. Gaddamit, get yer asses over there and fucking vote!!
However, the two Fandom candidates - jameth with 501 votes and legomymalfoy with 359 votes - appear to be shoo ins...if this whole process is done honestly. Frankly, what exactly The Process will be is still kinda murky from where I'm sitting. As best I can tell, it's A) you get 100 “I supports” and B) then LJ Management chooses from that group. If such is the case, then my cynicism runneth over.
I have no real expectations to get onto the board. I just want to get in the door so I can make my concerns heard...if such a thing will even be possible. Like I said, that nature of The Process is kinda murky.

 | 02:51 am - Sheer Madness ~In a fit of peak this morning, yours truly jumped into the race for positions on the Live Journal Advisory Board. What I hope to accomplish by this I'm not really sure, but, being in it now, I'll do my best to win.
So, here I am in CJ news, whoring for votes from any of you that still have LJ's. Y'all can vote for me here. Even if you don't, my nominating post is good for a giggle.
May I e-kiss your virtual baby? =) Current Mood: clearly confused

 | 06:48 pm - My Two Cents...Literally ~So, as of this moment, three of y'all have kicked in $71 which covers 42% of May's hosting. This is a Good Thing.
Honestly, it feels creepy to me having to wheedle cash out of you guys. I really wish we could just pony up the bread ourselves. CJ is not about making money and we're perfectly happy to break even. Hitting you guys up for cash feels so...commercial. Ick.
But we still have to operate in a Kapitalist Plutocracy, so No Dough, No Go. And we have had to Tap The Plastic too many times - broken eyeglasses, a very sick kitty, a bad tire – and our lil pad is now tapped.
However, if y'all keep up the above good works, we'll be fine for May. And we hope to have a far cheaper host toward the end of this year. *crosses fingers* I would be a shame if CJ crapped out before that happened.
Since Le-Le [aka shamangirl] is the Principal Code Monkey – putting the URL in the href is purdy much the limit of my coding talent – I'll be keeping up the “We Need Money” drumbeat and I'll repost this post until we make the rent.
But here's an idea:
The Buck Forty One Project
I know you have a buck. I mean, dude, really...you gotta have a freakin' buck! Okay, now take that buck, wrap it in a piece of paper, beg/borrow/steal an envelope and stick said paper wrapped buck in said begged/borrowed/stolen envelop, slap a 41 cent stamp on it and mail that sucker to:
CommieJournal 2010 West Avenue K #379 Lancaster, CA 93536-5229
As of this moment, there 2246 members of this community alone. Even if half of y'all did the above deed, our shit would be Golden and we wouldn't have to bust your chops about cash. And I'd much rather be out on Dar Intarwebz causing trouble for the fascists and plutocrats than be here hassling you guys for money, ya know.
PS Addressing the issue of advertising; Once you become beholden to advertisers, you get attached to their agendas [and fears] and become vulnerable to harassment by groups like the religious lunatics that provoked the Great Strikethrough last year on Live Journal. That event is the specific reason for Commie Journal's existence and the source of our iron clad No Ads Ever policy
K, that's all for now. We'll keep you appraised of developments.

 | 07:07 pm - We Need Your Help NOW! Once again, we had to pay the entire hosting bill out of our own pocket, because nobody purchased an account or donated.
I realize there are a lot of you reading this who are brand-new to the site and perhaps did not read the entire front page or haven't been around supporting things for very long.
This blogging site depends heavily on user donations to survive. We have a $169/month hosting bill to pay. The past couple of months, the majority of that has come out of our own pockets, but due to circumstances I'd rather not air publically, this ability has come to and end. If we fail to raise enough money by May 1, we will be forced to shut CJ down.
I really don't wish to do that, and I hate begging, but that is essentially what I am doing.
If you go to the front page, you'll see that we have a donation ticker, as well as buttons toward the bottom for donations and purchases. If you look in the link list on the front page, you'll also see "Purchase" right at the top. Clicking there will likewise take you to donation and purchase pages.
If you elect to use the ChipIn widget on the front page and wish to purchase account time, please email me and tell me which account type your money goes to (monthly, yearly, permanent).
Again - if we fail to raise the $169 by May 1, CJ is coming to an end. This is not a threat but a fact. Our personal pockets have run dry. Current Mood: crazy

 | 02:29 am - Newly suspended journals I just got done suspending a bunch of journals, because the entered birthdates indicated that the users were under 18 years of age. I've since corrected the error that allowed such accounts to be created.
Remember, this site is for adults, 18 years or older. Thanks! Current Mood: accomplished
